New Game of the Week: Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness
Online slot enthusiasts who appreciate adventure themes know Rich Wilde. They know that he has had several excursions through the world of online slots, including ones titled Pearls of India, Aztec Idols, and Book of Dead.
Play’n GO has put Rich Wilde right into another adventure, the latest to appear in online casino lobbies for Canadians during the last week of June.
Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness puts the player into the action as the main character tries to uncover the secrets of the Cult of Cthulhu. As he searches for the Tome of Madness, he plays out some of the action from author H.P. Lovecraft’s fictional universe.
And it was mostly due to popular demand that Rich Wilde made his return to the online slots. Play’n GO CEO Johan Tornqvist commented, “Of course, it was always in the plans to bring back a character as popular as Rich Wilde; players love him and his games, so it was just a case of finding the right adventure for him to go on.”
As Tornqvist tells it, Wilde isn’t on his last adventure. “I’m sure he’s not finished yet!” he said.
About Tome of Madness
This 5×5-grid slot is a story in a game. Taken from the world created by H.P. Lovecraft, the mysterious castle welcomes players with mysterious music and eerie sound effects.
Monsters lurk in dark places, as the reels spin with broken windows and crumbling columns highlight the background scene.
Players can start betting at just $0.10 and climb to $0.20, $0.50, $1.00, $1.50, $2.00, $2.50, $3.50, $5.00, $7.50, $10.00, $20.00, $40.00, $50.00, and $100.00.
The symbols in the game can match to achieve wins with four or more touching horizontally or vertically or both. When symbols do create a win, they disappear, and other symbols fall to fill in the gaps, possibly creating new wins. The worth of each symbol is as follows:
• Purple monster = $200 for 4, $10,000 for 10 or more
• Dagger = $150 for 4, $6,000 for 10 or more
• Blue ring = $100 for 4, $4,000 for 10 or more
• Green skull = $70 for 4, $3,000 for 10 or more
• Purple gem = $40 for 4, $600 for 10 or more
• Red gem = $30 for 4, $500 for 10 or more
• Blue gem = $20 for 4, $400 for 10 or more
• Green gem = $10 for 4, $200 for 10 or more
How to Play Tome of Madness
There are many things to look for while playing.
The keys are as follows:
• Special wild = the tome/book that triggers portal effects
• Multiplier wild = portrait of Rich Wilde that doubles all wins
• Mega wild = one-eyed monster that moves down the grid to substitute for all regular symbols
Watch the Eye’s Mark in the lower left corner, next to the grid, as it will tell the location of the eye, though it is also marked by a purple box around the location that needs to see a win.
By forming a win in the Eye Mark’s location, two special wilds are triggered and added to the grid. By opening every eye during the Other World free spins round, it triggers the mega wild.
Every win on the grid helps fill a part of the portal circle, and it can lead to changing the portal and adding special wilds.
By winning with one of the special wilds, it triggers the Abyss, which removes a row or column. Winning with the other (greenish-blue) special wild triggers the Void, which removes all of a particular symbol, chosen at random.
By winning with 42 symbols on the board, the portal opens and begins the Other World free round. For every three additional winning symbols, an extra portal effect is awarded. There is a maximum of seven effects allows. The free round continues until all portal effects are played.
Where to Play Tome of Madness
Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness is a very high-variance game. It requires patience and a bankroll to continue playing through the swings.
It is also a complicated game, with numerous wilds and triggers that can be confusing. The best way to get to know the game is to look through the information pages and play a few games for play-money if possible. This will allow the player to become more comfortable with what to expect.
