Playground Poker Prepares for World Cup of Cards

As a hub for poker players in Montreal and all surrounding areas, Playground Poker Club is always busy. During the winter months, though, the card room is running one promotion after another. Next up is the World Cup of Cards tournament series.

2020 World Cup of Cards

Poker players often can’t wait to get back to the tables after a holiday break. Playground Poker has just the answer every year with its World Cup of Cards.

What started in 2016 has become a staple on the card room’s calendar.

This year, there will be 22 tournaments stretched out from January 19 to February 5, 2020.

Buy-ins will range from $110 to $1,100, and there will be satellites running for potential discounted entries. There will also be guaranteed prize pools for every tournament, cumulatively totaling more than $1.2 million.

Schedule Details

The full schedule is on the Playground Poker website. By clicking on any of the tournaments, players can find more information, including online registration details and links to the tournament structures.

It should also be noted that the online poker entry options for tournaments are affiliated with PartyPoker. And the Strangers in the Night tournament is a fundraiser for several nonprofit organizations. The entirety of the $25 tournament fee with every buy-in will be donated to The Simple Plan Foundation, Lymphoma Canada, and Friends for Mental Health.

Following a Busy December

In December 2019, Playground Poker celebrated its ninth anniversary with the Grand Prix tournament series, the Main Event of which was hosted by PartyPoker.

The Grand Prix Main Event offered a $500,000 prize pool and surpassed that with 2,696 entries. The actual prize pool was $513,424, and Alexandre Raymond of QC took down the top prize of $80,000 for the win.

The Playground Women’s Series also continued in December on its way to wrapping up this month. The first three events took place in October, November, and December, with another one set for January 18 that will lead up to the finale on January 19.
