New Game of the Week: The Grand

Picture a speakeasy in 1920s America. Imagine women wearing fringe dresses, beads and gems, and men in gangster-style suits, walking into a smoky room with a jazz singer and fancy drinks. Think of The Great Gatsby. All this puts a player in the mood to play a new online slot called The Grand.

On March 12, Quickspin, a Swedish arm of the Playtech Group, released The Grand to numerous online casinos around the world. Two weeks later, it still remains one of the top five new slot games on most of those casino sites. Its popularity stems from the Art Deco theme of glitz and glamour. It also benefits from a unique 6-reel grid, and total of 214 paylines.

It takes players back in time, a century ago, in fact. The graphics are the type one might have found on a marquis sign or hotel advertisement, as modern graphics are combined with retro symbols to create a sort of time machine. And the music is soothing during regular play, too. With exciting sounds taking it up a few levels during free spins and bonus effects.

About The Grand

Players take a seat and enter the game as an art deco-style elevator opens. The reels are set up with six reels and two rows of three, two of four and two of five, or a 3-3-4-4-5-5-reel grid. And it all combines to create 214 betting lines.

Players can bet as little as $0.20 or as much as $100 per spin, with the potential to win up to more than 2901x the bet. Needless to say, it provides quite a bit of exciting action!

The RTP for the game is 96.58%. Play can seem slow if no paylines hit for a few spins. However, when the symbols do line up, or the features appear, or free spins occur, everything changes to fast action in a split second. It is worth the wait.

Most of the symbols are ones found in a standard deck of cards – spades, diamonds, clubs, and hearts. But with a retro artistic flare. The other symbols consist of a green gem in a gold setting and a purple gem in a silver setting. Both of these are worth significantly more than the other four symbols.

How to Play The Grand

There are many options for online play, especially for the desktop version. This includes auto spins, turning the sound off or on, using the space button for spins, and even advanced auto play with loss limit and single-win limit options.

The most exciting element of the game is the combination of three features in The Grand. All can randomly appear, and all are available during free spins. Sync allows up to three pairs of reels to synchronize for extra wins. Wilds create from four to eight random wilds. And Nudge pushes reels up or down to enhance a win, and it can happen to one, two, or three reels at a time.

The way to earn free spins is to trigger three or more of the Free Spin symbols. Three of them give the player six free spins, four offer nine spins, five garner 12 free spins, and six Free Spin symbols trigger 15 free spins. During the bonus round of free spins, the Bonus symbols may appear on the third, fourth, and fifth reels, and three of them open the GRANDomizer. This triggers extra Sync, Wild, or Nudge actions during subsequent spins. The GRANDomizer also awards extra free spins.

Where to Play The Grand

Most of the top online casinos offer Playtech games, and Quickspin is usually in that mix.

888casino lists The Grand in its “top slot games” category, and Play Amo and SpinLand feature it as one of the selected new games.
