New Microgaming Slots Include WowPot and Megaways

The month of April started with quite a few exciting new games on tap for release. All of the online video slots premiering in April offer top-notch graphics and exciting mechanics, but there are some key items that will appeal to the masses.

The new Microgaming Hold’em Poker has been so popular that a second version is now ready for online poker fans. And April slots include everything from Hyper Hold to Megaways and WowPot jackpots.

Themes for the month include gold and diamonds, as well as skulls and ancient Egyptian tombs. Queen of Alexandria is one popular name, as is Ana Van Helsing as a vampire hunter and the classic King Arthur. Players are already excited to log on and play these games at their favorite Canadian online casino sites.

Here are some of the details and features of Microgaming’s April slot game releases.

  1. Gold Collector (April 6)

The first full week of April brings a white-haired gold collector who is prepared to dig into the old mines and find treasures. There are prizes everywhere but especially with five jackpots and the Hyper Hold feature. Gold Collector emerges from the consistently-innovative All41 Studios.

As for as the game’s basics, they are:

  • 5 reels (4 rows)
  • Paylines: 50
  • Max win: 1,200x
  • RTP: 96.4%
  • Volatility: medium
  • Bets: $0.10 – $100

The highest-paying symbol in Gold Collector is, not surprisingly, the gold collector wearing his mining hat. In order of potential payouts, the next symbol is the mining cart full of gold, then the lantern, and the pick-axe and shovel round out the medium-paying symbols.

Wilds (they read “Gold Collector”) only appear on the second, third, and fourth reels but can substitute for any symbols except scatters and coins. Scatters (pictured as dynamite) also appear on the middle three reels only, and three of them trigger eight free spins. This can also occur during the free spins to retrigger them.

If three or more coin symbols appear on the reels, they will trigger the Hyperhold feature. This starts with just coins and blank positions, and each coin offers a multiplier. Three spins will offer chances to find more coins. Each time a coin lands on a particular reel, that reel resets to three more spins. When the player exhausts all free spins, the prize is the combined totals of all of the coins.

The popular Hyperhold feature awards cash prizes in the form of five different jackpots. The reel must fill with all of the same symbol, and the reel determines the jackpot:

  • Reel 1: Mini jackpot = 10x bet
  • Reel 2: Minor jackpot = 20x bet
  • Reel 3: Maxi jackpot = 50x bet
  • Reel 4: Major jackpot = 100x bet
  • Reel 5: Grand jackpot = 1000x bet

Players can visit the Microgaming website’s “Games” page for a demo version of Gold Collector. It is available for free to experiment with the features and gameplay.

  1. Hold ‘Em Poker 2 (April 12)

This Microgaming release is different from all typical slot games. This is a poker game, played against competitors in three-handed single-game form for random cash prizes. Microgaming released the original Hold ‘Em Poker game at various Canadian online casinos in December 2020. It quickly became so popular that Microgaming improved it and will release the updated version – called Hold ‘Em Poker 2 – this month.

  • Jackpot: progressive
  • RTP: 95%
  • Volatility: high
  • Bets: unknown

Microgaming shuts down its MPN (Microgaming Poker Network) in early 2020 but noted that it planned to reintroduce a poker product in the future. That future came in October 2020 when it first announced Hold ‘Em Poker as a casino table game, one played against other poker players on any Microgaming-affiliated online casinos. They released the peer-to-peer game in December 2020 with all sit-and-go tournaments playing three-handed.

The kicker about the SNGs is that they were played lottery-style, which meant that players bought in for a set amount, like $5, and played against two other players for a randomly-chosen prize pool. And with a progressive jackpot seeded at $25K, players had to chance to play one $5 SNG for life-changing money.

One of the benefits of the new Hold ‘Em Poker was its mobile-friendly style. While it could be played on any device, including desktops, mobile play offered portrait or landscape orientation.

The new version releasing this month will be an updated version called Hold ‘Em Poker 2, which will offer new avatars and more intuitive animation. The multiplayer game will continue with its random prize pool generator, but the software update will improve players’ experiences.

  1. Queen of Alexandria WowPot! (April 13)

Through its partnership with Microgaming, Neon Valley Studios created Queen of Alexandria. The game is set in Ancient Egypt, featuring the queen thought to be Cleopatra. The scenery is detailed, with the grid set in front of a golden pyramid and surrounded by intricately-designed columns. Not long after the game’s original release, Microgaming attached its WowPot feature to put this game into the exclusive jackpot family of games.

  • 5 reels (3 rows)
  • Paylines: 10 (bidirectional)
  • Max win: progressive jackpot
  • RTP: 92.5%
  • Volatility: medium
  • Bets: $0.10 – $200

Putting Queen of Alexandria into the WowPot system starts the progressive jackpot at $M, and it escalates from there until it hits. Currently, it sits at more than $14.7M. There are smaller jackpots – mini, minor, and major – but the WowPot is the largest by far.

  • Mini jackpot seeds at $10
  • Minor jackpot seeds at $100
  • Major jackpot seeds at $50,000
  • WowPot seeds at $2M

As far as standard symbols, the highest-paying one is the bar, followed by the red seven and the golden eye, and then by the red gemstone, purple one, and blue and green gems.

The game boasts of other features as well. Such as expanding wilds and multidirectional wins. Expanding wilds, appearing on the second, third, or fourth reels, trigger respins until no more expanding wilds appear.

Of the aforementioned gemstones, diamonds can set off the bonus wheel. These must appear on the three middle reels. The diamond must land on one of the colors on the wheel, and each color corresponds with one of the four possible jackpots.

  1. Anna Van Helsing Monster Huntress (April 15)

Rabcat Gambling developers worked with Microgaming to release this classic hit with a new twist. Most vampire games focus on Count Dracula, but this one puts Anna Van Helsing at the center. She was one of the famous characters in the fictional story, a native of Transylvania and vampire hunter. The game is dark and spooky and the soundtrack mysterious, as the entire story mandates.

  • 5 reels (3 rows)
  • Paylines: 25
  • Max win: 1,500x
  • RTP: 96.18%
  • Volatility: medium
  • Bets: $0.25 – $150

The top-paying symbol is the howling wolf wild, followed by the golden wolf face and the bony hand. The book is next and then the lantern, locket, and mirror complete the primary symbols. There are several wilds, including the Wolf Wild, Dracula Wild, and the Van Helsing Wild.

The Van Helsing Wild may land on the first, second, or third reels to trigger the Wolf Howls feature. This allows that wild to expand to fill the reel, become sticky, and trigger a bonus spin. During the bonus spin, any Wolf Wild can expand to fill its reel.

The Dracula Wild can only land on the middle reel and triggers the Dracula’s Banishment feature. This wild also expands to fill the reel and then transforms into a Van Helsing Wild. All book, coffin, and wolf head symbols become Van Helsing Wilds as well for the possibility of a very lucrative payout.

If a player finds three scatters, they trigger eight free spins, during which all wins will be multiplied 2x.

  1. Book of King Arthur (April 20)

Just For The Win is a studio full of creative game developers. This time, they offer up the Book of King Arthur, a new slot game for online casinos that is based on the legendary, medieval, and mythical British leader from the turn of the sixth century. Folklore portrays him as a king who established a massive empire and was known for his chivalry and courage. A different choice may prove to be the change of scenery from Egyptian and Mayan lore that players have been seeking.

  • 5 reels (3 row)
  • Paylines: 10
  • Max win: 5,000x
  • RTP: 96.10%
  • Volatility: high
  • Bets: $0.20 – $50

Th most profitable symbol in the Book of King Arthur game is King Arthur himself at 5,000x the bet for five on a payline. The book and the sword the next best symbols to see on the reels, followed by the shield and the grail.

All wilds can expand to fill an entire reel, which prompts a second win without the need for symbols to connect. Three of the books trigger free spins. Before then commence, though, players spin a wheel that chooses one symbol that will always expand during the bonus round. Wilds also expand during free spins. And if at least three books (on wilds) reappear, they may trigger another wheel spin and another 10 spins.

Some players will truly love the features in Book of King Arthur because they allow players to buy a boost to expand wilds and to buy free spins. The prices are based on the player’s current bet.

  1. 8 Golden Skulls of Holly Roger Megaways Firepot (April 22)

This is the first game emerging from the latest Microgaming partnership with an independent game development studio. Buck Stakes Entertainment delivered a game with a long name but tons of features to go with it. The name is a twist on the Jolly Roger, an English reference to flags flown to warn about a pirate ship attack. Holly Roger represents the women at the center of this game.

  • 6 reels (2-7 rows)
  • Paylines: up to 117,647
  • Max win: 6,000x
  • RTP: 96.86%
  • Volatility: high
  • Bets: $0.20 – $20

On the high seas, each of the female pirates is a high-paying symbol, with the one with the purple background as the highest, followed by yellow, red, blue, and then green backgrounds. The Firepot symbol is the golden skull wearing a red bandana. That is the best possible symbol, as eight of them on the board awards the Firepot prize. All Firepot prizes appear based on the player’s bet.

The diamond is the scatter symbol, which can appear on any reel. Four of them trigger free spins, with every additional one adding another two spins. The bonus wheel determines the starting number of spins and a multiplier for the bonus round. Players can also retrigger free spins during the bonus round with three scatters adding four spins.

If the mystery treasure chest symbol appears on the reels, it will reveal a hidden symbol after the spin finishes. That symbol can be any one except the scatter and increase the payout already on the reels.

Every spin allows Megaways to expand win potential up to 117,649 ways. This also increases with Rolling Reels, which happen on every spin. The winning symbols on a spin disappear, and the Rolling Reels replace them for another chance at a win. All winning symbols can do this except the Firepot.

  1. 9 Blazing Diamonds (April 27)

This new release from Gameburger Studios is a new take on a familiar game of blazing symbols. The traditional bars and bells, dollar signs, fruit, and sevens all seem to be on fire, all on a bright red background and ready to line up. Nine Blazing Diamonds is also a jackpot game for extra ways to win.

  • 5 reels (3 rows)
  • Paylines: 25
  • Max win: 10,000x
  • RTP: 96.33%
  • Volatility: medium
  • Bets: $0.20 – $25

From diamonds to wheels, there are many symbols that trigger features in 9 Blazing Diamonds. Three or more diamonds garner an instant win. Those  possibilities are:

  • 3 diamonds = 1x win
  • 4 diamonds = 5x win
  • 5 diamonds = 10x win
  • 6 diamonds = 50x win
  • 7 diamonds = 100x win
  • 8 diamonds = 500x win
  • 9 diamonds = 2,500x win

When flaming wheels land on the grid – on the first, third, and fifth reels – players have a chance to spin that large Blazing Wheel to the left of the reels. The wheel takes over the screen and awards a prize or a certain number of free spins with a multiplier. Players can win up to 30 spins and up to a 4x multiplier. (This multiplier adds to the diamond multipliers above if they appear during the bonus round.)

If the Blazing Wheel lands on a number, that signifies winning a jackpot. The five jackpots listed are based on the player’s bet.

  1. Egyptian Tombs (April 29)

Snowborn Games is still in its first months of its Microgaming partnership and is ready to release Egyptian Tombs in just a few weeks. This game is set at the Egyptian pyramids but with a moon lighting the nighttime sky to create a bright blue background.

  • 5 reels (5 rows)
  • Paylines: 3,125
  • Max win: 10,000x
  • RTP: 96.18%
  • Volatility: high
  • Bets: $0.20 – $24

The most valuable symbol in this new game is the Ra, which is the eye with the blue diamond in its center. Ten symbols on the grid present the opportunity to win up to 10,000x the bet. That is a part of the jackpot options shown above the grid. The amounts of the jackpots vary based on the player’s bet. The big rewards start at 5 Ra symbols and progress up to 10.

Superspins happen occasionally to keep the reels spinning longer and add more high-value symbols to the reels. Ra symbols turn into wilds.

Scarabs act as scatters in the game, with three of them triggering the Tomb Bonus. That initiates a wheel that will spin and determine the number of free spins, which can range from 8 to 50. During those bonus spins, Superspins happen more frequently, and scarabs can retrigger free spins.
