New Game of the Week: Relic Seekers from Microgaming

The summer months are full of adventure, and there is no better place to explore than a dark cave where rich relics are believed to be located.

Microgaming teamed up with Pulse 8 Studios to develop its newest game with that theme.

Relic Seekers takes players on a journey through the ancient tomb of the Dragon’s Vein. It is set in the Huangdi era, Huangdi being the third mythological Chinese emperor and cult hero credited with defeating barbarians and winning the leadership of tribes throughout the Yellow River plains.

There are three adventurers in Relic Seekers. Free Man, Professor Morgan, and Nora take the challenge to enter the cave and find the secrets that lie in the Dragon’s Vein.

Pulse 8 Studios is a new, independent gaming studio specializing in Asian-inspired content. This is the first release from Pulse 8 through Microgaming, which makes it available to all online casinos with Microgaming relationships

Microgaming Director of Global Operations James Buchanan noted, “Offering an immersive playing experience with captivating visuals and features, Relic Seekers sets the bar high for future releases from Pulse 8 studios, who we are delighted to be working with on an exclusive basis.”

About Relic Seekers

There are 25 paylines in Relic Seekers, a 5-reel, 3-row slot game.

The soundtrack matches the scenery of the underground tomb, with mysterious sounds indicating secrets around every corner. With a dark brown background and mostly dark symbols, the game is not a bright one but certainly an intriguing and engaging one.

The lowest bet value is $0.01, which makes the minimum bet $0.25. Players can take it up to $0.50, $0.75, $1.00, and on up to $50.00, $75.00, and a max bet of $100.00.

Autoplay is an option for 10, 25, 50, or 100 spins. There are win and loss limits that will stop those spins per the player’s orders.

With the betting value set at the lowest, these are the payouts for five of each of the following symbols:

  • Wild lantern = $10.50
  • Young male adventurer = $4.50
  • Older male adventurer = $3.75
  • Young female adventurer = $3.00
  • Dog = $2.75
  • Yellow, green, and blue stone symbols = $1.25
  • Red and purple stone symbols = $1.00
  • Corn and mushrooms and square meat = $0.05

The scatter symbol is a blue and gold whirly one, and it pays 2x the stake on a payline.

How to Play Relic Seekers

There are several unique and potentially lucrative features in Relic Seekers.

The top feature is Rolling Reels. When several symbols line up for a win, they drop off, and new symbols drop into their place. This continues until no more winning lines occur but can accumulate several wins in a row before it stops.

During Rolling Reels, a high symbol – one of the three main characters – will turn wild. One of them will become wild on every second, fourth, and sixth consecutive Rolling Reels movement, and they remain wild for the remainder of that spin.

The scatter symbol, when it appears at least three times on one spin, triggers 10 free spins. And during the bonus spins round, another set of scatters – three, four, or five of them – will retrigger the bonus and bring on more free spins.

The keys are a unique feature of Relic Seekers. When a green key appears on the fifth reel during a free spin round, the round object is placed above the reels. The more a player collects, the better the result. For example, the collection of three keys wins two extra free spins. Six keys bring on those two extra spins at a 2x multiplier.

As with any exploration of new territory, one discovery can lead to another, which is what happens with Rolling Reels and the many things that can happen during free spins.

Each feature is accompanied by sound effects that mimic laser beams, rocks falling, and even an old metal door opening to reveal the free spins.

In addition to wilds and general paylines, the game is not lacking in excitement potential in every spin.
