New Game of the Week: Boom Pirates from Microgaming

Microgaming never ceases to amaze with its new online casino games. Boom Pirates is the latest new game and one that introduces new and exciting features.

This game was developed through a partnership with Foxium, which is known for its innovation. This gels well with Microgaming. And Boom Pirates is the perfect example.

It is natural that Boom Pirates offers creative animations and graphics, along with a fun theme. And there are numerous features to keep the action going. Microgaming added even more with this game, however, by adding something called Wonderways. The brand-new feature transforms the 5×4 grid of baseplay into a 9×6 grid with more than 10 million ways to win.

Foxify is another new highlight, giving players the opportunity to increase the wager by 50% in return for more gunpowder for the cannons.

Microgaming Director of Global Operations James Buchanan noted that the game has thrilling features and new mechanics, all wrapped in an exciting adventure.

Foxium CEO Ake Andre said, “Boom Pirates is set to be an explosive success and marks the maiden voyage of our new Foxify and Wonderways technologies, which we believe will transform the player experience and enable our creative teams to take game development to the next level.”

About Boom Pirates

The game is set in the ocean, with a pirate ship holding the treasure. Captain Mary hoists the Jolly Roger with her band of pirates, and they set sail with numerous features.

Boom Pirates has a soundtrack out of a pirate film, one that harkens back to a time when pirates ruled the seas and islands were merely stopovers on their tours around the world.

The game starts as a 5-reel game with four rows. The standard number of betting ways is 1,024. And the RTP (return-to-player) is 96.19%.

Betting starts as low as $0.10 and can be pushed as high as $20.00 per spin.

However, the Foxify feature next to that bet line is the unique feature in Boom Pirates. Clicking it for a $0.10 bet puts the total bet at $0.10 but offers more ammunition for the canons, meaning there is a higher chance of hitting any of the game’s three main features. With the Foxify on for the maximum bet, it pushes that bet up to $30.00 and then again to $45.00.

It is easy to tell if the Foxify is on, not only by the betting amount but by the background changing from day to night.

The paytable can be summarized here by showing the payouts for nine of each symbol at the lowest betting amount:

  • Captain Mary = $25.00
  • Pirate Ben = $20.00
  • Parrot = $15.00
  • Cannon = $10.00
  • Barrel = $7.50
  • A, K, Q, J, or 10 = $5.00

There is another unique opportunity in Boom Pirates. Players can click on the orange gift box to purchase 10 free spins for $10.00 (at the $0.10 bet level). The box costs 100x the total bet.

How to Play Boom Pirates

It’s best to decide on the betting amount, find where the buttons are located, and get acquainted with the symbols before starting the game. There is a lot happening in Boom Pirates.

When it begins, the pirate ship is sitting offshore and the grid is on the island and 1,024 Wonderways.

At any time, Captain Mary might swing in randomly from a rope on the right side of the grid, slash a group of symbols to make them the same and create at least five of one kind. This is called Mary’s Swashbuckling Attack.

Also, at any time, the pirates yell, “Boom Pirates!” from the ship and fire a cannon at the grid. This can increase the grid to as large as 9×6 and increase the Wonderways up to 10,077,696 paylines.

The scatter symbols spell out “Yo Ho Ho” and will appear on the first, third, and fifth reels. The pirates yell as they appear, and if it misses the full three necessary ones, the pirates will sigh loudly.

If the Yo Ho and Ho hit, it activates 10 free spins. The player is then transported to the shoreline for the spins. The scatters can hit again during the free spins to add another five. The pirates can shoot out some of the stones to open the reels and offer more Wonderways as the bonus round continues.
