Microgaming Pays Record Progressive Jackpots in 2018

No matter what online casino games are popular at any given time, progressive slot jackpots remain the most sought-after games online. All slot jackpots are fun to win. But Microgaming’s Mega Moolah games regularly set records and pay out millions at a time.

When the numbers were tallied for 2018, Microgaming revealed that it had paid out more than $234 million CAD in progressive jackpots winnings for that one year alone. This includes the largest Mega Moolah jackpot ever paid worth nearly $28 million CAD in September 2018.

Mega Moolah is a Casino Hit

The best online casinos offer Mega Moolah, though it hasn’t always been that way. The game was first released by Microgaming in 2006 with its original African safari theme. The bonus wheel spins, animated lions and elephants, and 25 paylines were a hit. However, nothing spoke to players like the ever-growing jackpot numbers.

The first Mega Moolah jackpot was awarded in April 2008 to a player in Finland; he won over $7.2 million CAD. Little more than one year later, a player from Greece won $9.5 million CAD. As word spread about the life-changing money, players began requesting it of their favorite online casinos. And those casinos signed deals with Microgaming for that game.

One of the most memorable Mega Moolah wins set a record when it happened in 2015. A 26-year-old British soldier named Jonathon Heywood of the UK won £13.2 million when playing for 25p per spin. The win came at a crucial time, too as Heywood had experienced somewhat of rough year. This included a family member’s death and his father’s serious health problems. The windfall thus allowed Heywood to provide the best medical care for his father who needed a heart and lung transplant. He was also able to change careers, buy a home, and prepare for a growing family.

Microgaming broadened its Mega Moolah offerings as well. New games were developed to complement the original. Such as the Egyptian-themed Mega Moolah Isis, American-themed Mega Moolah 5-Reel Drive. And self-explanatory Mega Moolah Summertime.

The mobile version of the game launched in 2012 to partner with the growing number of mobile online casinos. Subsequent upgrades have allowed players to access Mega Moolah on all available smartphones and tablets.

Slot Jackpots In 2018 A New Record

The largest payout in 2018 also set a new Guinness world record. That happened on September 28, 2018, when a player at Grand Mondial Casino online hit the progressive jackpot for $28,551,182.75 CAD. The person played a 75-cent bet on an Android mobile casino and hit the largest payday ever from Mega Moolah. That win beat the last world record set in 2015 of $26,987,124.54 CAD.

When 2018 wrapped up, the entire year of Microgaming progressive jackpots was tallied to be $233,884,374.53 CAD, out of which nine players were each awarded seven-figure jackpots. Smaller slot jackpots added up to the majority of the payouts, many of which were life-changing jackpots to the winners.

On January 14, the first seven-figure payday of 2018 was awarded. Zodiac Casino paid out the $3.6 million CAD jackpot. Then a jackpot of $7.1 million CAD hit on Royal Vegas Casino at the end of February. The year continued in the same manner.

Microgaming CEO John Coleman congratulated all the winners and noted that Microgaming’s progressive jackpot network is nearing a massive milestone. “It is remarkable to see total payouts nearing €1 billion (just over $1.5 billion in CAD), which really highlights the strength of the network, and we are excited to be working on a series of developments aimed at taking our progressive jackpot offering to the next level.”

Solid Start for 2019

The new year brought players to the ever-growing Major Millions games. Soon after, a player on 32Red hit it on January 2 for more than $1.1 million.

Mega Moolah’s progressive jackpot is awaiting its next payout. This had already topped $25.6 million CAD by mid-January and eclipsed $30 million CAD by January 30. When it hits, it has the potential to break the current record in quick time. It is currently reported to be growing at around $300,000 CAD per day.  It will take a player hitting the Jackpot Bonus Wheel game on Mega Moolah for the next winner to come close. And it must trigger the Mega Jackpot on a single spin. As the games are random, however, there is no way to tell when it may hit again.
