GG Spring Festival Set for April Featuring deadmau5

As April approaches, poker players know that online poker operators will begin to up their games. As the weather improves and people become vaccinated against the coronavirus, many people will head outdoors and away from the online poker tables.

Each spring since 2009, PokerStars has been able to bring millions of poker players to the tables with its Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). This year, PokerStars announced its largest SCOOP ever for April with $100M in guaranteed prize money.

Enter GGNetwork and its flagship GGPoker site. In a most uncreative but player-friendly move, GG announced a new Spring Festival for April. This series will offer more tournaments and $150M in guarantees. And it partnered with famous Canadian DJ and music producer deadmau5 to kick it off.

GG Spring Festival Basics

The GG Spring Festival starts on Sunday, 4 April. Every day through 25 April will present numerous opportunities to win a part of the $150M in prize pool guarantees.

The series offers 110 numbered events, each with three buy-in levels: low, medium, and high. This allows players of various bankroll levels to participate in each event on the calendar. The lowest buy-in seems to be $5, and the high-end offers several $25,500 buy-ins.

Of course, there will be satellites running for the tournaments, so players can take their shots for pennies on the dollar.

Pays to Play Often

Any leaderboard competition in a tournament series provides an incentive to play more events. All events played award points for the leaderboard, though (obviously) in-the-money finishes are more valuable. This Spring Festival leaderboard competition, though, will offer a total of $1M in cash prizes.

This competition will break down to award winners each week of the Spring Festival. Players will also be earning points in categories separated by low, medium, and high buy-ins. The payouts for each leaderboard will be:

  • Week 1 of $300K: $50K (low), $100K (medium), $150K (high)
  • Week 2 of $300K: $50K (low), $100K (medium), $150K (high)
  • Week 3 of $400K: $75K (low), $125K (medium), $200K (high)

The leaderboards begin with the first events on April 4.

House Party and deadmau5

Electronic music lovers around the world know of deadmau5. For more than 20 years, Joel Zimmerman disguised as deadmau5 – complete with a mouse head and huge mouse ears – has produced and released music. The Ontario native is one of the most famous DJs and music producers in the world.

Deadmau5 is also no stranger to the gaming world. His music has found its way into many a video game, like DJ Hero 2, Goat Simulator, and FUSER. In 2020, Microgaming even featured deadmau5 in his own online casino slot game, which featured his music and visuals from his Cube v3 tour.

Most recently, he partnered with GGPoker for the Spring Festival. Since the online poker series is structured like a music festival, the deal with deadmau5 makes sense. The full nature of the partnership is unclear, but he will help to kick off the series on Saturday, April 3. GG is calling it a party with exclusive music to be streamed via, all to highlight the $100K freeroll that precedes the start of the series.

In addition, deadmau5 will play in the April 10 $10K buy-in GG Legends Bounty tournament. He will play with a bounty on his head. There will likely be numerous promotions and satellites running for this event.

Big Guarantees

Of the 330 tournaments in the Spring Festival, there are 39 with guarantees of $1M or more. And two of those will offer $10M guarantees. Those two are included in the highlighted tournaments during each of the three weeks.

  • Week 1: Opening Act (low) – $80 buy-in NLHE ($1M GTD)
  • Week 1: Opening Act (low) – $80 buy-in PLO-NL ($500K GTD)
  • Week 2: Headliner (high) – $10,300 buy-in NLHE Super Millions$ Main Event ($10M GTD)
  • Week 2: Headliner (medium) – $400 buy-in NLHE ($2.5M GTD)
  • Week 2: Headliner (medium) – $400 buy-in PLO-NL ($1M GTD)
  • Week 3: Main Event (high) – $1,500 buy-in NLHE ($10M GTD)
  • Week 3: Main Event (high) – $1,500 buy-in PLO-NL ($2M GTD)

The lowest buy-in opportunities for $1M guarantees or higher are the above-mentioned Opening Act and Headliner events. There are a few more options for buy-ins of less than $1K. Those are the weekly $525 buy-in Bounty Hunters Main Events, each with a $1M guarantee.

The complete schedule is available on this GGPoker page.

GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu commented on the series:

“This is going to be the biggest online poker event of all time and will blow a lot of people’s minds. From the deadmau5-hosted launch party and other festival elements to the massive headline event guarantees, it’s a true poker party from start to finish, and I can’t wait for it to get underway!”
