After around three-years’ worth of touring the globe, Elton John is retiring, ending off around 50 years of performing. He states that he would like to go out with a bang!
It was on Wednesday that Elton said that he had, had a good run. More so, he wanted to go out with people remembering his final tour as fantastic.
Elton John’s Life
The pianist and composer, now 70 years old, announced his farewell at a New York event. He titled the tour, the ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’. He justified his reason for leaving by stating that he would like to spend more time with his family.
Elton and his husband, David Furnish have two young children. To which he expresses that his children, husband and family are his priority. Further, he states that this is in fact, the end of his singing career.
Elton John’s Final Tour
According to the singer’s website, he is scheduled to perform two concerts in Toronto on the 25th and 26th of September. Further, in Ottawa, Quebec City and Montreal on the 28th and 29th of September and 4th of October respectively. Those who are interested can buy tickets from the 2nd of February.
Canada recently saw Elton John in November whereby he performed two shows in the Ontario cities of Kingston and St. Catharines.
Throughout his career, the 70-year old boasts five Grammys, an Oscar as well as a Golden Globe award for ‘The Lion King’ and a Tony Award for Aida. Furthermore, he received the Kennedy Center Honor.
Elton’s Residency Draws to a Close
A few weeks ago, Elton announced that his residency in Las Vegas would be drawing to a close in May. The Million Dollar Piano Concert held in Sin City will come to a close after around six years, which held approximately 200 performances.
Next Sunday, Elton is scheduled to sing alongside Miley Cyrus at the Grammy awards. He too will be presented with the President’s Merit Award.
Whether you love or hate the singer, it is impossible to say that he has not done a great amount for his career. As this is not his first rodeo when it comes to receiving an honour award at the Grammy’s. With his first being in 2000, where he took home the Legend Award for lifetime achievement. In the very same year, he was also titled the MusiCares Person of the Year. This was due to all of his philanthropic measures whereby he raised hundreds of millions of Dollars through his well known, Elton John AIDS Foundation.
