The British Columbia Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB) has given NetEnt Americas a license to supply the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) with its online casino games. NetEnt had left the Canadian gambling market only a year ago and have been called back to provide the BC online gambling players with their leading casino games.
NetEnt Americas will only be servicing the BC because every province in Canada regulates its gambling industry. However, BC is the second largest province with nearly 4.6 million residents. As a result, the leading software provider will be offering their casino games to many online casino players.
NetEnt Leaving Canada
It was in 2016 when the software provider decided to exit the Canadian online gambling market. However, there was never an official statement on why NetEnt was leaving Canada.
Online casinos that are owned by the iGaming provider, Rizk, Guts and Betspin followed suit and left the Canadian online gambling market. Other casinos online that featured NetEnt’s games removed them from their library.
In the turn of events, the provider later that year announced that it would bid for a licence in the British Columbia province. However, it is still unknown on the reason why the provider left the Canadian market.
Canadian Gambling Licence & Laws
Even though it was unclear on why NetEnt left Canada, it might have been the regulatory environment that may have driven them to leave.
Canadian online gambling laws are ambiguous. It is unclear whether the services of iGaming are neither legal or illegal. However, it is known that online casinos have to be from outside the country to offer Canadian gambler a platform to gamble.
