The Best Online Poker Follows
About 20 years ago, if you want to learn about poker or improve your strategy, you’d have to read a book, pick up a magazine or head to a land-based casino and watch the action in person. Nowadays, the online world is a cornucopia of content where you can learn about the game in so many ways. From following players on Instagram to watching games being streamed on Twitch, even from watching the YouTube channels of poker pros, you can really soak in a lot of quality information to become a better player yourself.
We’ve scoured the internet to make you a collection of the best online poker follows on every platform. Here are some of our favorites:
With just over 141,000 subscribers, there’s a reason why so many players trust Andrew Neeme’s videos. He updates very frequently with all sorts of useful videos. What people tend to go to him for is the strategy of playing specific hands. For example, he has a video on flopping quad aces, which is very precise. Going through different scenarios like that is very useful to players.
This is a really useful account as he really combs through the intricacies of poker strategy. Not only will you find basic how-tos and things to get you started, but he also does book reviews, reviews final tables, gives advice for other poker games (like Omaha) and many more.
He’s more entertaining than anything but it’s quite interesting to follow around a poker pro of this caliber and get a peek into the life of a poker pro. And of course, you will learn a thing or two about the game.
While you can get a lot of tips from different accounts, one really useful way to get better is simply by watching the action. With the Live at the Bike! YouTube page, you can stream real people playing real poker Monday through Friday at 9:00 p.m. ET. Of course, you can always just watch it later (rather than stream). This gives you a real feel for how people play, how they read each other and the moves they make. It’s all uncut and unscripted.
If you’re looking for a quality news outlet, CardPlayer.com is about as plugged in as it gets into the world of poker. Not only are they on top of all of the latest news in the industry, they also have a very useful blog where they post plenty of strategy articles. The strategy articles on their website are top-notch and they’ll also run Card Player Magazine interviews, which are often written by some of the most successful poker players.
Similar to CardPlayer.com, PokerNews.com is one of the primary outlets for poker news. Whether you just want to find out who won the latest tournament or get strategy on hands, rules or terms, they’ve got it covered. Their video section is particularly useful as you’ll find all sorts of quality content like interviews with celebrity players and tips on how to improve your game.
If you’re just looking for the videos and prefer to ingest your content that way (rather than read), we’d recommend you go to their YouTube page rather than the video section of their website.
Daniel Negreanu @RealKidPoker
One of the game’s legend is also a fantastic follow on Twitter. He’s often tweeting out either insightful news, useful strategy or just funny memes.
Doyle Brunson @TexDolly
The Texas Dolly is always entertaining to watch but he does a great job on Twitter too. Most 86-year-olds aren’t on Twitter but Brunson sure is, tweeting out dry sarcasm, witty retorts and even the odd meme.
Phil Hellmuth @phil_hellmuth
Hellmuth is not only a poker icon, he’s a pretty good follow on Twitter too. Nowadays, he’s entrenched in a positivity movement and he weaves in those tweets with his poker and general thoughts.
Online Poker Report – @OPRupdate
For those that like to get their news in just a few characters instead of full articles, the Online Poker Report Twitter handle will serve you well.
Joey Ingram @papigto
Joe Ingram is best known for his podcast but his Instagram account is a useful tool for players too. He’ll often hop on Instagram live and chat with players, do interviews and also provide some interesting behind-the-scenes stuff.
Fedor Holz @fedorholz
The former No. 1 online player (in 2015 and 2016) posts all sorts of useful nuggets. He posts inspirational thoughts that will help you get fired up to play. Outside of that, you’ll find some book reviews, general tips and other posts that give you a look inside his life.
Lex Veldhuis @lexvelduis
A well-known poker pro, Veldhuis uses his Instagram account for videos. He’ll posted a lot of various content of him doing things around the poker table. For the most part, it’s strategy, thoughts or just general banter.
It’s no accident that they’re approaching 3 million downloads. Hosts Zac Shaw and James “SplitSuit” Sweeney, are often drilling down into some high-level strategy. Newbies to the game will definitely find it useful, but this is definitely something that even the experts want to listen to.
Host Sky Matsuhashi has three poker books out and now, a very successful podcast too. There is a lot of news in this podcast as well as quality interviews too. The more you listen, the more your game will improve.
This is a weekly poker podcast that’s very enjoyable to listen to. While something like the Red Chip Poker Podcast is more honed in on strategy, this podcast is a little more balanced in the sense that you’ll hear some strategy, some lifestyle and some news.
Lex Veldhuis @LexVelduis
We mentioned the Dutch Poker Pro for Instagram and the story is the same here too. He streams quite a bit as he averages about eight hours a day. You will not run short on content to watch.
Jamie Staples @PokerStaples
On this Twitch account, you’ll find Staples streaming his action as he plays. It’s pretty useful as you get the hang of not only how he’s playing but how he’s thinking and evaluating each scenario.
Courtney Gee @courtiebee
To add some female flavor, Courtney Gee is a good option to tune into on Twitch. You can join her collection of fans, which are known as “The Swarm”. As she plays, she’ll talk about her mindset with certain hands, what she sees and the decisions that she makes.
Now that we’ve showed you our best online poker follows, why not take a listen, read or watch, to really get the opportunity to learn from the best of the best, all from the comfort of your couch.
