Last week, Fort St. John’s Chances celebrated seven years in business with the addition of seven gaming tables, effectively converting the gaming centre into a full-fledged casino. The move, which is unprecedented, was welcomed in the British Columbia gaming community.
Live Gaming Stations
Chances officially added two blackjack tables, two poker tables, one three-card poker table, one Texas Hold ‘Em table, and one roulette table to its electronic games. The live table games will run Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Hours may expand later if tables are popular.
Ryan Pomeroy, President of Pomeroy Lodging, said, “[Chances has] offered electronic tables, slot machines, and bingo games in the past and I think this brings a full gaming entertainment experience to the community. It’s a product several people enjoy and we’re happy to bring it to the community.”
The facility, which is located inside the Pomeroy Hotel, already has bingo, off-track betting, lottery games, instant win games, and slots. Regular events, a full-service restaurant, and a bar also bring crowds of locals and visitors alike into the facility.
With the addition of live gaming tables, gamers in Fort St. John can now have the full casino experience without traveling to Grande Prairie, Alberta – which is over two hours away. Chances enjoyed community support, city support, and support from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. As a result, it was able to prove that it could meet a community need and consequently was able to bring on the live gaming tables.
If this bodes well for Chances, perhaps more gaming centres will expand their operation by bringing in live tables and operating as smaller casinos in more remote parts of the provinces. There are several other Chances locations across British Columbia that would most likely welcome the opportunity to broaden their revenue base as the Fort St. John location is doing.
