Smart Craps Bets to Make

Craps is a casino game that contains literally hundreds of betting combinations where players can undertake a variety of strategies. Just take a look at the craps table layout and you will see for yourself that making a smart choice in betting can be a little tricky. But do not fret! We are here to let you in on a few golden craps tips that will have your doubt dwindle as soon as you have read this article. Just remember one thing: sometimes playing a simple game of craps is the only way forward.

The Pass Bet and Taking the Odds

The Pass Bet is the simplest bet one can make at the craps table. In this bet if the come out roll is a 7 or 11 then you will win even money. On the other hand if the come out roll is 2, 3 or 12, then you will lose your pass line bet. If any other total is rolled, then that total is known as The Point. The point will be marked by the ‘on’ button at the top section of the craps table layout.

Here is where craps get interesting!

Once the point has been established you will be permitted to make a side bet. This side bet is known as Taking the Odds. Any craps player will tell you that once the point has been established YOU HAVE TO take the odds bet. Why?

The Odds bet is perhaps the only bet out of all casino games that contains a 0% house edge, whereas the Pass Bet will have a house edge of 1.41%. This means that if you are a smart player you are obligated to yourself to take the odds bet. This way you will have a chance to win even money if the right dice is rolled.

The way to place an odds bet is by clicking behind the pass line once the point has been established, it is as easy as that. In online craps you will only be permitted to make odds bets at 4x the initial pass line bet.

The Don’t Pass Line and Laying the Odds

The Don’t Pass Line and Laying the Odds is pretty much exactly the opposite of The Pass Bet and Taking the Odds Bet. With this form of betting you will essentially be betting against the rest of the players and with the house. In live craps this may irk some players as many of them will think that you are trying to jinx them (craps players are some of the most superstitious players around). But the wonderful thing about online craps is that you will be playing by yourself and won’t have to worry about what others think.

The positive thing about the Don’t Pass Line bet is that it will give you a smaller house edge than the Pass Line bet, one of 1.36%. Although the difference is quite minute, it will still count in your favor in the long run.
Much the same way as you are betting against the players, the Laying the Odds bet will go against the established point. Here the house edge will again be 0% like the taking the odds bet.
