How To Play Classic Blackjack

When you are done with your series of moves, the dealer will follow by unveiling his hidden card and will further follow by attaining more cards until he beats your hand or goes bust. In Classic Blackjack the dealer is forced to stand on 17. If you and the dealer both receive clean Blackjack hands, the round will be deemed as a Push. In Blackjack, the term “Bust” refers to any totaling amount that exceeds 21. Let’s take a few steps back and go through some important Blackjack terminology that will aid you in becoming a competitive Blackjack player. Once you have received your cards you will be given the opportunity to make one of 5 decisions: Hit If you decide to ‘Hit,’ you will receive another card, which will add to your totaling amount. You can hit as many times as you wish, as long as you don’t exceed 21, in which case you are Bust. Knowing when to hit is an art in itself. Stand To ‘Stand’ means that you do not wish to receive more cards from the dealer. It is advisable to stand when the totaling amount is close to 21. Most players often stand on 17 and up, but all that depends on the dealer’s first card – more often than not, you will be pressed to take risks in order to beat the dealer. When you get dealt a matching pair of cards you will be given the choice to Split the hand, which means that you will effectively be playing with two hands against the dealer. If you receive yet another matching card you will be permitted to split the hand again, this is called a Resplit – you can only Split and Resplit your hands up to four times during a hand. Usually, if you get dealt two Aces in most other Blackjack variations, you will only be permitted to draw one card; however, in the instance of Classic Blackjack, you will be allowed to add on as many cards as you wish to complete the hand. Every time a hand is split, the bet will be doubled, so it is important to split the right cards and not just any matching pair. Insurance Bets Insurance is an option that you can take when the dealer’s up-card (the card that is visible in the game) is an Ace. Here you will be essentially betting on the dealer’s side. The dealer will then check if his down-card (the card that is not visible) is of 10 a value, and if he happens to have a Blackjack, your insurance bet will be paid at 2:1 odds and your initial bet will be lost unless you too have a Blackjack. Alternatively, if the dealer does not have blackjack, then you will lose your Insurance bet, but will still have a chance to beat him in the straight game. Double Down Bets If you receive a totaling amount of 9, 10 or 11 on your initial first cards you will be given the opportunity to double your bet.
